10 Ways to Stay Productive

March 17, 2010

Staying productive throughout the day is a very hard thing to do. I have been reading what other bloggers have written regarding how to stay productive. Tony Ruiz’s blog post “10 Ways to Stay Productive (Online and Offline)” has some really good ideas.

Tony’s point, number 9, regarding multitasking seems almost counter-intuitive. We feel like we are accomplishing more by doing multiple tasks at one time. One of the main problems with multitasking is that you get distracted with the myriad tasks and do not complete a single one to the best of your ability. The key to accomplishing Tony’s number 9 is to focus on the few things that matter first and get rid of distractions.

Getting rid of distractions might include closing your email…I know, this is entirely alien to most of us but it does help. It could also be good to shut off the cell phone/blackberry/iPhone in order to focus on the sole task at hand.

Another blogger, Rich Brooks, also wrote about productivity. Here is a quick summary of his list:

1. Make a list
2. Clear things out of your email inbox
3. Just Say No
4. Work out
5. Delegate
6. Schedule down time
7. Leave your computer at work
8. Focus on what you do best
9. Work with people you like
10. Coffee

Here at OpenView Venture Partners, we strive to stay as productive as possible through the day, week, quarter and year. From the operational support to management teams, we are constantly looking for new way to stay productive. If you have any suggestions to add to the list, leave me a comment.
